Mock Trial:  "Order in the Court"

Mock trial is primarily an activity which requires sharp individuals who are not afraid to get up in the front of others.  It is not a scripted activity.  Students need to be able to formulate their own questions ahead of time if they are an attorney and/or learn their facts if they are a witness.  They also need to be able to think on their own.  Mock trial is a rewarding and challenging activity.  Mock trial is NOT limited to students who are interested in being an attorney or who have taken Criminal Justice.  Selection of the team(s) will be based on performance during practice, as well as commitment.  Coaches are local attorneys.  Activity sponsor is Mrs. Wiltgen.
Practice:  Every Monday from 7:00 - 9:00 pm @ SSCHS

Mock Trial Results for 2007:
  • The students competed in the final round yesterday against Lutheran High NE and took runner-up.  I don’t think they realize what an accomplishment this is.  They won four out 5 trials all total and came in 2nd out of 18 or 19 teams. The qualities they displayed during this time are even more impressive – commitment, preparedness, listening and responding to suggestions for improvement.  My proudest moment came when we were in Madison last week, however.  The lady at the Pizza Hut there kept the buffet open for us past the normal hours and they each tipped her $2.00 without me telling them to do so.  They do deserve congratulations on a job well done.
Mock Trial Results for 2006:
  • The Mock Trial team lost both of our two rounds on Friday.  However, the students did extremely well and according to the judges, it was very close.  In the 2nd round, it was a split decision and the presiding judge had to decide.  Marcus Langseth and Michael Daily, as witnesses, were very effective. Considering the unsettledness of the team this year, I believe we accomplished a lot and set a foundation for the future.
We are fortunate to have two excellent attorney-coaches, one of whom is Tammy Johnson's daughter, Bobbier. They have such commitment to the team and I can't say enough about how helpful they are.

What I really am proud of more than anything is how the students treated Sean.  They were so good with him during practices and made him feel welcome. For me, their character was worth more than a win.  Thanks for your encouragement and support to the team.
Mock Trial Results for 2005:
  • The team competed in Fremont for their first round in October of 2005.  They won both their first rounds which was a first for the team and advanced on to the 2nd round which was also held in Fremont.  Although the team lost in the second round, they did an awesome job!  Especially notable were the witnesses who played their roles to perfection.  The attorneys did an incredible job with objections and delivered opening and closing statements without use of notes.  Congratulations!
