2006 Nebraska Boys State Track & Field Meet

We had a good State Meet. Bret qualified for the final in both the 100 with 11.14A and a hand held 22.3 in the 200. It was too bad we had the rain on Saturday morning but finishing 5th in 11.31A was very good. Bret was 8th in the 200 so was out of the medals. Our sprint relay was 13th overall with 44.67A. We didn't feel we ran very well. Jordan did a nice job in the long jump. It was the last scheduled field event and started 90 minutes late so that required some adjustment on his part.
The one thing you can depend on it the high level of competition and hundredths of a second and quarter inches making a lot of difference.  We were pleased to have two athletes in the medals.

2006 Nebraska State District Meet

Bret Hoch and Jordan Spirk continued their outstanding season with State Meet Marks.  Bret qualified in both the 100 11.1A and 200 23.01A with third place finishes.  Jordan was second in the long jump 21' 8.75". These two will be joined by Eric Larson and Jacob Bell in the 4x100 44.19A who qualified fourth.  Dannie Caskey got us a personal best sixth place finish in the shot put 47-7 but wasn't good enough to qualify.  As a team we had an outstanding day with lots of personal bests and very competitive efforts.  We qualified in the events that we thought had a chance. The level of competition  and the quality of athletes was something we had not seen this year. If you like good track and field It was very impressive group of teams.  We are looking forward to the state meet.

Heelan 9-10 meet

It was nice to get back on the track. The rain has caused some problems and the throws were cancelled due to the conditions. It's hard to complain about a good spring rain in the midwest!
We thought our kids had a good meet. We had some personal bests and competed well in this meet.
We were 4th one point out of third. We have our Conference Meet this Friday so we need to get our kids in the best position to score some points.

Sioux City Relays

It was nice to see the relays have a decent day. There was a lot of very good track and field at this meet. It was nice for us to be able to win two of the four Class B relays. Bret and Jordan competed very well in the individual events.  I think there were 30 schools there so winning a place in the elite events is encouraging.
Class B 4x100 Relay Eric Larson-Jacob Bell- Jordan Spirk and Brett Hoch.
Also winning the 4x200 Relay Ben Hirsch-Mike Lethcoe-Jordan Spirk and Jacob Bell
Other place winners were
Bret Hoch 2nd in Class B 100- 3rd in the Elite 100-2nd in the Elite 200
Jordan Spirk 3rd in the Long Jump
Class B 4x400 Relay Eric Larson-Brenner Pantoja-Nick Diediker- Jacob Bell finished 5th

City Meet 2006

This was a really nice effort by our athletes. We were somewhat disappointed the first day but performed better on day two. It's always nice to be competitive in the City Meet.  We had a number of personal bests so are please with our progress.
Bret and Jordan continue to lead our team but Brenner Pantoja, Jacob Bell and Eric Larson had a very good meet.
A number of younger guys had very good meets as well Alex Baheny Tyler Hoch and Ben Cardwell to mention a few.
SSC finished 2nd, totaling 74 points.

Huskies Invitational Track Meet
Boy's Results, Tuesday, April 4, 2006 @ Elk Point-Jefferson High School

These are the results from the Elk Point Meet. We were happy to be competitive but had hoped to finish a little higher in the team standings. The boys teams were very evenly matched and a few inches and tenths decided the place winners and team championship. We made some progress which is good to see.

Bret Hoch and Jordan Spirk won two events and Jacob Bell and Nick Diediker placed in three. These are the kids that we knew could score just about anywhere. Dannie Caskey got us two places in the throws. We made some mistakes that led to some disqualifications in the relays events. We need to correct that. Hopefully we can be outside this week and get some work done. We had a nice meet but our kids need to understand track and field requires a 100% effort and focus every time you step on the track, runway or into the ring.
