2007 Track & Field Season Summary
The
2007 Track and Field Season was highlighted by three new
school records; two indoor and one outdoor.
The new indoor 4x200 relay record was set by Ryan
Hernandez, Mike Lethcoe, Jacob Bell and Jordan Spirk
1.36.58 A at the Dan Lennon Invitational.
Jordan Spirk also set a new school record in the Triple
Jump of 43’2” at the same meet. Outdoors Jordan set a
new school
record in the triple jump of 45’1 ½” at the South Sioux
City Invitational.
New class records were set by Sophomore Tyler Heitman
with 21’9 ½” in the long jump. Sophomore Adam Bobier
tied the Sophomore record in the High Jump with 6’2” and
Freshman Brandon Stolze with 52.7 in the 400 meters. In
all twenty-seven times/distances made the all time
charts.
Jordan Spirk 141.5 and Jacob Bell 122 made the list for
100 points in a season.

One of
our long time goals is to be competitive in the City and
in Class A. We felt we made some progress and met the
‘be competitive’ goal with our 2nd place
finish at the East Invitational.
We qualified in five events to the State Meet with five
invididuals Jacob Bell 200/400/4x100, Jordan Spirk
Triple Jump/4x100 Relay, Tyle Heitman Triple Jump, Tyler
Hoch 4x100 and Adam Bobier 4x100. Jordan was our only
medal winner with 7th place in the triple
jump.
We are looking forward to next year with the kids we
have returning.

It was a
great State Meet. Jordan got into the medals and had one
really good jump but fouled by a ‘toenail’. He just has had
some tough luck with some tiny fouls on his big jumps the
past tow weeks. The adjustments we made just weren’t 100%
correct. Hopefully he will go on and jump in college so
he’ll have some good jumping left. Tyle’s jump was his best
of the year in a legal pit. It was a good experience for him
to get to the meet and see what it takes at the State Meet.
Jacob was a little disappointed in his 400. He was in great
shape at the 200 but faded into the wind. He came back in
the 200 with a personal best and missed the final by a tenth
of a second.
Our sprint relay ran its season best time. Tyler Hoch got us
off to a great start. Jacob ran well down the back stretch.
Adam Bobier ran well on the turn and Jordan was very
competitive with the other anchors but we are talking tenths
and hundredths at the finish. It’s nice to be competitive in
the events we take but we need to get a more events to the
State Meet.
Congratulations to these SSC Track & Field Athletes that
Qualified for the State Track & Field Meet

Wow…that best describes the competition at the District
Meet. It’s my favorite meet of the year because so much is
on the line. We thought our kids did about what they could
do. Jacob came within an eyelash of qualifying in four
events. Jordan got in with some other good long jumpers and
they just jumped better. Tyler Heitman got in with a 2nd
best effort after he tied for fourth. Brenner and Adam
jumped well but just couldn’t match what they had done
during the season. It was nice to see Tyler Hoch run two
strong legs on our relays. I feel bad for freshman Brandon
Stolze and Jacob not being able to run together at the State
Meet. It would have been a good experience for Brandon.
North Platte is a nice town and they ran an excellent meet.
However, I still find it hard to understand why the NSAA had
us drive through three other districts meet sites to get to
our assignment in North Platte.

About the best thing that happened all day was that it
stopped raining! The River Cities is a tough Conference
and you need to be able to compete on a state wide basis
to win events and score high. If you look at the other
Conference across the State you’ll see the level of
performance in the River Cities is excellent. It was
nice to see Jacob Bell win two Conference championships.
Jordan jumped really well but the Ralston kid jumped
better. We were disappointed that some of our kids did
not perform at a higher level. It’s not that they
weren’t trying but the performances just were not there.
It’s the time of the year when everyone has high
expectations that the training will pay off in personal
bests and places.
Congratulations to Conference Champions Jacob Bell in the
400 Meters and our 4x400 team of Adam Bobier Tyler Hoch
Brandon Stolze and Jacob Bell.

Dakota Valley
Invitational:
It’s
always nice to win but most of the meet we looked like we
had Prom on Saturday night. We had some really outstanding
performances by our younger guys. Tyler Heitman set a
class record in the long jump and Adam Bobier tied the class
record in the high jump. Brandon Stolze and Ryan Hernandez
ran very well. Ryan tweaked a groin so we are concerned
about that heading into the Conference and District Meets.
Jacob Bell ran very well considering the little sleep
Seniors/Juniors get over the weekend. We had some other
younger guys break into the team scoring. Robbie Klassen 2nd
in the 1600. Luis DeAnda and Sergio Guerrero in the 3200 and
our 4x800 relay Klassen, Guerrero Corey Kramper and Nathan
Vajgrt. Our Conference looks very tough again with
Ralston Beatrice Omaha Gross all winning Invitational meets
this spring. Going to North Platte for the District meet
will be a real challenge.

Great meet;
really impressive performances. The SSC Invite gave our kids a
chance to see some good Class A athletes. The same type of
athletes we will see at the Conference and District Meets. B.J.
Lawrence’s 10.4 is the fastest in the State this year. Jordan’s
jumps rank 2nd and 3rd. It was nice to
have Jordan get the school record in the triple jump. He has
been chasing that for three years. Overall we had some very good
improvement in times and distances. It’s tough to judge by the
places. Jacob Bell continues to show improvement in his speed
and endurance for 200 and 400. Ryan Hernandez had an 11.1 and
22.6 in the prelims. It was the first time Ryan has run prelims
and finals so it was a good experience for him. Adam Bobier ,
Tyler Hietman jumped very well with personal bests that won
places. Mike Lethcoe continues to improve in the discus and
appears recovered from the ankle injury. Brenner Pantoja is
finally somewhat healthy and can train now for the 300 hurdles.
It was a great night for track and field and the performances
showed it. Athletic Director Kelly Flynn, Michelle and Ron Rapp,
Lance Swanson and Suzie Rector worked really hard to put
together a well run meet. It was fun for anyone who likes track
and field and high school athletes.

The Sioux City Relays is always a great track meet for area
fans and teams. The meet really showcases the best track and
field athletes in the area.
We were please to be on the medal stand three times with our
relays. We had good efforts but nothing that really stood
out. We’ve got a lot of track and field left starting with
our meet this Friday against some great teams.
