2009 NE State Track & Field Meet
We had an outstanding state meet. We finished 13th . Ryan came within a few hundredths of a second of winning two championships. Tyler set a new school record without any wind at his back in the triple. He fouled on his best jump in the long. Our sprint relay set a new school record but couldn’t get to the medals.  We’ll miss our Seniors and their leadership. Our younger guys know what it takes to be competitive in Class A.

Academic All Conference
Ryan Hernandez, Tyler Heitman,  Adam Bobier, Brandon Stolze, Riley Palsma, Cody Odell and  Kyle Hanish were selected to represent South Sioux City on the River Cities Conference Academic  All-Conference Team.  The requirements are a GPA of 3.5 or above. A major contributor to our track and field team and an athlete in good standing.
We are really pleased to be represented by these young men.  Our Seniors Ryan, Tyler and Adam have all been recognized for their athletic achievements. They certainly represent the best in the student-athlete concept of our activities program.  Our younger guys have good models in these young men.

NE District Meet - Norfolk

Congratulations to Ryan Hernandez Tyler Heitman Adam Bobier and Brandon Stolze on qualifying for the state track and field meet. In the Clas A-2 District track and field meet Ryan Hernandez won the 100 meters and 200 meters and ran on the winning 4x100 meter relay. This is the first time a South Sioux track and field athlete has won three district gold medals as far as I know.  Tyler was nearly as good finishing 2nd in both the long a triple jump and running on the winning 4x100. Tyler’s season point total is a all time best. So far this season Tyler has scored 214 point breaking the record of John Hoag of 186.
Adam Bobier and Brandon Stolze were other teammates on the winning 4x100 in a new automatic timed school record of 43.69. Mike Munson finished 8th in the shot put in a talented field of throwers.

River Cities Conference Meet

JV Boys Results / Varsity Boys Results
It was another good Conference Meet. Ryan Hernandez and Tyler Hietman continue to excel. Our school record in the 4x100 of 43.3 was impressive. Ryan broke his own school records with a 10.5 in the 100 and 21.5 in the 200. Tyler jumps were solid. As usual he fouled on a really nice long jump. Our hurdlers made some real progress with Logan Bell Cody Odell and Justin Heitman all recording personal bests. Robbie Klassen ran well in the 1600 and Brando Stolze ran his best 200/400 combination of the season.

Heelan Freshman/Sophomore Meet

It was nice to have a meet for our 9-10 graders. We finished 4th but were competitive with the City schools. We have some good young athletes that will develop. At this level general athletic development is the key. Some kids get stuck in a mind set that this or that is my event. It’s too early for that idea.  Kids like to do what is enjoyable or safe.
We have a couple of years to help them develop in the event. It was raining at the end so they got a taste of spring track and field.

48th Annual South Sioux City 2009 Track and Field Invitational Meet
Full Boys Results

Wow is the best description of Ryan’s races at our Invitational. It was a nice day and a decent wind at his back but 10.47-10.52 & 22.2-21.64 and an outstanding leg on our 4x100 that just missed the record. Anyone that watches track and field knows how special he was. Two school records, two meet records….it was the 48th running of the South Sioux City Invitational. Our meet has had some great sprinters. Jack Ehrich of South Sioux held the 100 meter record of  10.74 in 2002.
Tyler Heitman was nearly as good. Tyler’s jumps of 22-1 ½ and 45 1 ½  were just off the school and meet marks. Nate Blanks of Omaha Central jumped 22’7 and 45’4 in 1983. Tyler was seeded 2nd in both jumps but did what good athletes do….compete.
Adam Bobier and Brandon Stolze joined  Ryan and Tyler in winning the 4x100. We ran 43.64 and our school record is an automatic 43.7 by Brandon Moore Buzz Tramner Mike Stinger and Brant Haafke set in 1995. I’m sure they want another chance or two at that one.
Adam also placed 4th in the high jump at 5’10. Zach Mahon earned 6th in the 3200 at 11.21.
Logan Bell had his best day as a hurdler finally ‘3-stepping’ the highs and was 5th in the 300 IM’s in 46.2.  Logan has just kept working at it the past year and a half. It was nice to see.
We had a number of kids  do well that did not place. Cody Odell jumped 19’10 in the long jump and finished 7th in 200. Riley Palsma threw 121-3 in the discus. Senior Sean Dowdle pr’ed in the 200 at 27.89 and triple jumped 33-7 ½. Overall we had a good meet. We were disappointed in not being able to find 3 more point and finish 3rd.

2009 Sioux City Relays

We were please with the efforts of our athletes in less than ideal conditions! It seems like it always rains or snows on the Relays. Ryan was exceptional in those conditions. He missed the meet record by .08 in the rain. Tyler had some very good jumps that were fouls but the runway and board were slippery. Fortunately no one was injured. Our 4x100 continues to run very fast hopefully we can have a good week of weather and training and make some improvements for our meet next week.

South Sioux City 2nd in Vermillion Meet / Full Meet Results

We had another pretty good meet. Having only one day rest hurt some of our kids and others did very well. Lennox and Tri Valley had teams that looked a lot like us. We felt we should have been able to find ten more points to win the meet but so did the other teams! Tyler Heitman had his best jumps of the season in less than ideal conditions. Ryan Hernandez got a chance to race against two kids that looked just like him. I think he learned a little more about sprinting. We made a mistake in the sprint relay that hurt us. It was nice to have Michael Gesell in the hurdle races. Robbie Klassen continues to show improvement over last year. Our other distance kids are working at it. Zach Mahon Dennis Yanez each ran three races. Cody Hattig got a sixth in the 800. Marky Sayer had a personal best. We need to keep improving. Our throwers made some progress Mike Munson and Adam Bobier got us some places in the shot and Riley Palsma showed some good improvement in the discus. Vermillion runs a very nice track meet and most of our kids earned a medal.

South Sioux City Wins the Elk Point-Jefferson Track & Field Meet

Anytime you can start the season with a team championship it’s a good start. This meet has some smaller schools with some very good athletes. We had more team depth with lot of kids contributing to help us win. It’s the first time we have won this meet. Ryan and Tyler continue to be exceptional for early in the season. They are Seniors and have worked hard for four years so should enjoy their success. Brandon Stolze scored in four events and seems to be getting better every week.. Adam Bobier-Robbie Klassen-Logan Bell-Kyle Hanish all had a part in three individual/relay places. Justin Heitman-Cody Odell in two relays. Mike Munson-Zach Mahon-Michael Gesell got us a place in their events. Steven Pierce-Dennis Yannez-Mark Sayre showed some good improvement in the distance events and will continue to develop as the season moves along.

Dan Lennon Track Meet

We had an outstanding meet. Dan Lennon is one of the top meets in a three state area. Seniors Ryan Hernandez-Tyler Hietman-Adam Bobier- Mike Munson showed that they are as good as we think they are. The rest of our kids did very well. What we found out is we are in good enough shape to run one decent race but the second race isn’t there yet.
We had two school record performances. Ryan Hernandez was 2nd in the 60 meters in 7.20 breaking Bret Hoch’s record of 7.31. Our 4x200 relay was also 2nd in 1.36.50 Tyler Heitman- Brandon Stolze Adam Bobier and Ryan Hernandez. The old record was 1.36.58 set in 2007 by Jacob Bell Rayn Hernandez Mike Lethcoe and Jordan Spirk.

Tyler Heitman finished 2nd to two state meet place winners. He jumped 44-5 in the triple jump and 21’ in the long jump. He missed the long jump record by an inch. He had some great jumps that were short fouls so we need to get that fixed.
Adam Bobier hadn’t jumped at all due to the weather and his Skills USA(2nd) commitments. The 4x200 relay conflicted with the last of the high jumpers. We passed a height to allow him to partially  recover from the 4x2 for his final jumps. He had a really good jump at 6’4” so we are encouraged with his place finish.
Mike Munson has had a great week. He set a State Power Lifting Meet record, finished 2nd in Skills USA competition and had his best throw ever at Lennon. Coach Krueger keeps preaching to stay with the drills and focus. Coach Krueger also co-sponsors the Skills USA team.
We had lots of good performances from our other kids so we are headed in the right direction. Like usual we are waiting for a break in the weather to get outside.

Norm Herren Track Results
Really a nice start to our season. The Norm Herren had some outstanding athletes again this year. Tyler Heitman won two events so started his season really well. Ryan Hernandez finished 3rd trying the school record of 7.31 set by Bret Hoch. Our 4x200 finished 4th with  Ryan Tyler  Justin Heitman and Kyle Hanish. For most of our guys this was their first or second time indoors and competed well. It’s good to get in the first meet and realize what it will take to improve.
