NE Girls State Track & Field Results for 2002
Amber Ross jumped 17 feet to finish 6th in the State in Class A at the State Track Meet at Omaha’s Burke Stadium. This weekend completes a great year which has seen her break both the indoor and outdoor school records. At the same meet, the 4 x 100 meter relay team of Amber Ross, Alyssa Paulsen, Brittni Likes, and Sara Gotch ran 51.42 seconds and finished 12th in the state. The time ranks as the 4th fastest in school history and shows tremendous promise for the future as the team is composed of three freshman and a sophomore. Congratulations to all of these girls.

Sioux City Girls 7th at Districts
The
South Sioux City Girls Track and Field team finished 7th in a brutal
8 team district at Omaha Burke Stadium, Thursday, 5/09/02.
The field included defending State Champs Lincoln Southeast and defending
Metro Champ Omaha Burke.

Sioux City Girls 4th in Conference Meet
The South Sioux City Girls Track and Field Team competed Thursday, 5/2/02 in the
River Cities Conference Track Meet.
The girls finished a competitive 4th place, scoring 84 points.
They were 1 point out of 3rd place, and only 11 points out of
2nd place.
The girls competed very well—many achieving personal bests or seasons
bests. The
JV team finished in 3rd place, scoring 74 points. The following

Place: South Sioux City Girls in the Sioux City Relays The South Sioux City Girls Track and Field Team competed
in the prestigious Sioux City Relays on Saturday,
4/20/02. The Relays involve 40
schools and are one of our most competitive of the year.
The girls came away with some impressive performances in many different
events. Two highlights for the Lady
Cardinal Tracksters include Amber Ross’s school record performance in the Long
Jump (17' 4"), and the 4x100 meter relay team’s 1st place
finish in a very competitive field. The 4x100 team included Amber Ross, Elisha
Doyle, Brittni Likes, and Sara Gotch. Sara
Gotch also won the Class B 100 meters and finished 2nd in the Elite
100, combining the top 8 participants from all four classes.

South Sioux City Girls Track and Field team competed in the 2nd
annual SC Relay meet at Robert’s Stadium, Friday, 4/12/02.
The girls competed very well, although there were no team points kept,
the Lady Cardinal Tracksters came away with many high places.
Highlighting South Sioux’s performance was Amber Ross’s victory in
the Long Jump and the 4 x 200 meter relay’s 2nd place finish.
Their time was the 4th fastest in South Sioux history. A

Place: SSC Girls Track & Field Results in SSC
Cardinal Invite The South Sioux City Girls Track and Field Team competed
in the Cardinal Invite, at the Cardinal Athletic Complex Friday evening,
4/26/02. The girls competed hard
and finished 4th in a competitive 7 team field, scoring 89 points.

6th Place: SSC Girls Track in Newcastle Invite On Thursday, April 4th, the South Sioux City Girls Track and Field Team competed in the Newcastle Invite at the South Sioux City Athletic Complex.
The girls finished 4th,
totaling 69 points in an excellent effort for the first outdoor meet of the
season.
The Lady Cardinal Tracksters
missed out on their first outdoor meet of the season when the LeMars meet was
rescheduled Tuesday, due to inclement weather.
That being the case, more athletes than usual were involved in this meet,
although, no athletes were involved in more than two or three events.
The Girls Track and Field team
will take the weekend off, then be back in action Tuesday night, also in South
Sioux City, when we host the Girls City Meet. Results of Thursday’s meet are as follows:

Sioux Girls Track and Field Team in Crusader Relays The South Sioux Girls Track and Field Team competed in the Crusader Relays at Heelan’s Memorial Stadium Tuesday evening, 4/23/02.
The Girls
competed well, totaling 66 points, to finish 4th.

The SSC Girls Track and Field team competed Monday,
4/29/02, in the Heelan 9/10 meet. The
Cardinal Freshman and Sophomores used
balance throughout the lineup to win the
meet in impressive fashion, scoring 89 points.
Norfolk was 2nd with 69 points. What follows are
