South Sioux City Girls Track & Field team 14th at State Pictures from State & School Records:
The South Sioux City Girls Track & Field team finished 14th in the 2004 State Track and Field Meet, May 21st and 22nd at Omahas Burke Stadium. Scoring points for the Lady Cardinals were Amber Ross in the Long Jump and Molly Hines in the Triple Jump. Amber claimed the Class B State Championship in the Long Jump with a school record jump of 18 1. The winning jump came dramatically on her final jump of her high school career and vaulted her from 3rd to 1sta great way to end a great career. Molly also had a clutch jump, to get her into the finals and win a medal. On the final jump of the prelims, she popped a 35 5 jump, a foot further than her previous jumps, to qualify her for the finals and place her 5th going into the finalsa place she protected through the finals enabling her to win her first State Meet medal. Also a fitting end to a stellar High School career. The 4x100 meter relay team narrowly missed medalling as well. They finished with a quick 50.80 fully automatic time, breaking their own school record but finishing 7th by less then .100th of a second. The 50.8 is a tremendous time that simply came up a little short. That relay consisted of Amber Ross, Alyssa Paulsen, Brittni Likes, and Sara Gotch. Sara Gotch competed in the 200 meters, turning in a 27.1 second effort, but did not place. Kayla Miller gave a 2:30 effort in the 800 meters, but likewise didnt place. Molly Hines clobbered the 2nd hurdle in her 100 meter hurdles race and failed to qualify, as well. Her time was 17.2. The state meet represents the end of a very successful season for the Lady Cardinals Tracksters. Highlights include winning our own meet and finishing 2nd in the River Cities Conference. The girls were also a narrow 3rd in the Metro Meet, almost winning it. The coaches are extremely proud of the efforts of all of the girls on the team this year and are looking forward to a successful 2005. |
