NE State Track & Field Meet 2006

SSC Girls Track and Field Competes in the State Track Meet

The South Sioux City Track and Field contingent competed Friday and Saturday, May 19/20, 2006 in the Nebraska State Track and Field meet.  SSC completed the season 21^st in the state on the strength of Jackie Humphrey’s 3^rd place finish in the Shot Put.  Jackie finished a rather amazing State Meet run with her performance.  Heading into the competition, her personal best was 36’4”—she bettered that performance by over 3 feet, putting the Shot 39’5 1/4” to nab the bronze medal.  Her performance marks her as the top returning qualifier in Class A for next year, and sets her up nicely for her senior season.  Her performance ranks as the 2^nd best all-time at SSC and completed a great effort by the Lady Cards at the State Meet.

SSC Girls Compete in A-3 District; Advance 5 to State

   The South Sioux City Girls Track and Field team competed in the tough A-3 district Track and Field meet on Wednesday, 5/10/06.  The team competed well and managed to advance 5 girls on to the 2006 State Track & Field meet.    Those girls are:  Jackie Humphrey in the Shot Put; Brittany Stabe in the 3200 meter run; Patty Murillo in the 300 meter hurdles; Tabatha Williams and Amber Estochen in the 100 meter hurdles.  The overall results are as follows:

South Sioux City Freshman Girls Track and Field Wins City Championship

The South Sioux City Freshman Girls Track and Field team competed in the Freshman City Meet on May 8^th, 2006.  The Girls competed very well, winning the City Title outright for the first time in many years.  The Lady Cardinals accumulated 136 points, outpacing Sioux City Heelan, who was 2^nd with 109.  There were many personal and season’s best performances and the coaches are extremely proud of the girls for their effort in this meet.  What follows is the SSC results for the City Freshman Meet, 2006.

SSC Girls Track and Field Team 2^nd In RCC

The SSC girls Track and Field team traveled to Omaha Skutt Catholic High School on Friday, May 5^th, 2006 to compete in the River Cities Conference Track and Field meet.  The Girls competed very well, coming home with a strong 2^nd place finish, totaling 111 points, our 6^th straight meet over 100 points.  Individually, Brittany Stabe was the MVC (Most Valuable Cardinal) coming up with our lone win in the 800 meter  run and  posting strong showings in the 4x800, 1600, and 3200 meter runs.  What follows is an account of SSC’s strong showing at the River Cities Conference meet.

SSC Girls Track and Field 2^nd in Heelan 9/10 Meet

The SSC Girls Track and Field team competed in the Heelan 9/10 Meet on Monday, 5/1/06 coming away with a 2^nd place team finish.  The girls accumulated 126 points, finishing 22 points behind Heelan in a partial schedule.  Due to rain, Heelan cancelled the Shot Put, Discus, and Shuttle Hurdle relay portion of their schedule.  There were numerous personal bests and season bests and the coaches are extremely proud of the girls for their performance in this meet.  The following is the SSC results for the Heelan 9/10 Track and Field Meet.

SSC Girls Track and Field Competes in the Sioux City Relays

The South Sioux City Girls Track and Field team competed in the Sioux City Relays, Saturday, 4/22/06.  On a beautiful day for Track and Field, the girls competed well—SSC’s effort was highlighted by Patty Murillo’s 3^rd place finish in the Open 400 meter hurdles.  Patty has run the 400 hurdles 3 times in her life—each time she has broken the SSC school record—this would be the case again at the Sioux City Relays.  Patty finished 3^rd in a very strong field in a school record time of 1:09.66.  Here are the SSC girls results for the 2006 Sioux City Relays.

SSC Girls Track and Field 2^nd in East Invite

The South Sioux City girls’ Track and Field team competed in the East High Invitational Tuesday evening, April 18^th, 2006.  The girls had a very successful night, finishing 2^nd in a tough 5 team field made up of the city schools plus Sergeant Bluff.  The girls totaled 103 points, marking our 4^th consecutive outing having scored 100 points or more, trailing only Heelan by 17 points and defeating West and North by 6 and 8 points, respectively.  What follows are the SSC results for the East Invite, 2006.

South Sioux City Girls Track & Field 4^th in City Meet

The SSC girls Track and Field team competed in the Sioux City Metro meet on Tuesday, 4/11/06.  The girls had set a goal of winning the meet, but unfortunately, finished in 4^th position with 116.5 points,  3 1/2 points out of 3^rd place and only 22 points out of first place.  The girls have been working hard and competed well, and their coaches are very proud of this result.  Highlights of the meet include the win by the Shuttle Hurdle Relay team, the outstanding finish of the 4x400 meter relay, and the second place finish of Patty Murillo, who broke the school record in the 400 hurdles, in her first attempt at this race.  What follows is the results of the 2006 Girls City Meet.

SSC Girls Track and Field Team Wins Vermillion Booster Club Invitational

On Saturday, April 8^th, 2006, a beautiful  day for Track and Field, the South Sioux City girls Track and Field team traveled  to Vermillion for the Vermillion Invitational.  The girls fared very well, winning the meet and scoring 153 points in the process.  It is the second major invitational  in a row that we’ve won – an exciting way to start the 2006 Track and Field season.   Highlights of the meet  include:  Patty Murillo running the 5^th fastest time in school history in the 300 m hurdles in, only, her second race.  Also, the 4x400 meter relay  finishing in 4:19.7, the first time in several years this relay has been under 4:20. Girls Track & Field Team Wins Elk Point – Jefferson Invitational

The SSC girls Track and Field team competed successfully in the Elk Point Jefferson Invitational, Tuesday, April 4^th, 2006.  The girls came away from the competition with 104 points and a Championship plaque to show for their effort.  Strong relays and field event performances accounted for the win, in which, SSC had 34 medalists.  Winning this 12 team meet is a fantastic way to kick off our season and the coaches couldn’t be more proud of the girls’ efforts.  The following is a summary of the SSC place winners.

Dan Lennon Invitational

The South Sioux City Girls Track and Field team participated in the Dan Lennon Invitational Monday, March 27^th in Vermillion.  It is one of the largest competitions of the year, hosting over 50 teams.  The girls competed hard the entire day.
Highlighting the South Sioux City effort would be the performance of our 4x200 meter relay, crossing the finish line in 9^th place at 1:55.64, the 6^th fastest time in our history.  SSC also got a strong showing from our hurdlers, placing all three in the top 25, the only school to do so.  Amber Estochen was 13^th in  10.11; Tabatha Williams was 18^th in 10.31;  Patty Murillo was 23^rd in 10.40.
A great start to our season!  We will next be in action Tuesday, April 4^th at the Elk Point-Jefferson Invitational.
