Lady Cardinal Volleyball 2003 Season Highlights

  • The Lady Cardinals lose in the 2nd Round of District Play. Close season with a 10-16 Record Omaha Skutt Catholic defeated SSC by scores of 10-15, 15-1, & 15-6
    Again leading the serving dept for SSC was Kelsey Troth, going 11-12 with 4 aces.  Brittni Likes was 10-11 with 3 aces & Lacee Murtaugh was 12 of 13 with 1 ace.  Joy Rager had 18 serve receptions, Sara Gotch 16, & Amber Estochen 15.  Troth also led the team in kills with 8 & Molly added 7.  Gotch had 2 blocks & 10 digs. Murtaugh contributed 20 assists.  Hines & Estochen each had 3 blocks on the defensive end.

  • SSC Wins 1st Round District Match over Omaha Roncalli (Record 10-15)
    The Cardinals defeated Omaha Roncalli by scores of 15-8 & 15-7 in a 1st Round NE Class B-3 District
    Kelsey Troth was 13 of 13 in the serving dept. with Sara Gotch going 9 for 9 and Molly Hines contributing 10 of 12 with 2 aces.  Hines lead the offense with 7 kills & Gotch added 6.  Defensively, Joy Rager & Hines each had 3 blocks & Amber Estochen had 15 assists

  • The Lady Cardinals Placed 6th in River Cities Conference Tournament (Record 9-15)
    SSC lost to Omaha Duchesne 15-12 & 15-12
    SSC lost to Omaha Skutt 13-15, 16-14, 15-12

  • SSC Wins One Match & Loses One in Triangular (Record 9-13)
    SSC defeated Elk Point-Jefferson by scores of 25-13, 25-10, & 25-12
    Leading the Lady Cardinals was Sara Gotch going 21-21 in the serving dept. with 2 aces.  Lacee Murtaugh was 16 of 18 serving, also with 2 aces, & added 23 assists.  Molly Hines contributed 9 kills, Joy Rager 6 kills, & Kelsey Troth 6 kills.  Molly Hines added 4 blocks.
    SSC lost to Ralston by scores of 24-26, 25-17, 25-15, & 25-17
    Brittni Likes 14-14 serving, Lacee Murtaugh 9-9 serving, & Joy Rager 9-12 serving with 2 aces.  Murtaugh had 30 assists, Molly Hines had 9 kills, & Amber Estochen added 5 kills.

  • SSC Loses a Pair (Record 8-12)
    Oakland-Craig defeated the Lady Cardinals by scores of 10-15, 15-9, & 16-14
    Wisner-Pilger defeated SSC by scores of 15-7 & 15-13
  • SSC Defeats Omaha Roncalli (Record 8-10)
    South Sioux City defeated Omaha Roncalli 15-6 & 16-14.  Molly Hines led the offense with 6 kills, Joy Rager added 4 kills, & Kelsey Troth and Lacey Muirhead head had 3 kills. In the serving department Murihead had 4 aces & was 13 of 14,  Lacee Murtaugh was 10 of 11 with 3 aces & also contributed 8 assists.  Defensively, Molly Hines had 4 blocks and Joy Rager had 14 digs & 1 block.
  • Lady Cardinals Sweep Sioux City West (Record 7-10)
    SSC defeated Sioux City West 15-5 & 15-11
    Joy Rager went 10 for 11 serving with 14 digs, Amber Esotchen was 9 for 10 serving, Kayla Miller 6 for 6, & Lacee Murtaugh 6 for 8.  Lacee also had 11 set assists & 10 digs.  Molly Hines added 3 blocks in the match.

  • SSC Loses 2 Matches in Omaha Skutt Triangular (Record 2-3)
    The Lady Cardinals lost to host team Omaha Skutt by scores of 15-6 & 15-12.  Lacey Muirhead had 6 kills and 10 digs, Molly Hines contributed 8 kills, & Lacee Murtaugh had 16 assists.
    Beatrice also defeated the Cardinals with scores of 15-6 & 15-11.  Lacey Muirhead contributed in a big way with 10 kills, 4 blocks, & 5 digs.  Brittni Likes added 11 digs & Murtaugh 9 assists.
  • 3rd Place Finish for the Cardinals in the Omaha Roncalli Invitational  (Record 2-1)
    SSC defeated Omaha Mercy by scores of 15-10 & 15-6 to take home 3rd place in the Roncalli Invite.  Molly Hines had 7 kills & Lacey Muirhead 6 kills to lead the way for the Lady Cardinals.  Brittni Likes converted 15 of 16 serves in the win with Amber Estochen (2 aces) and Joy Rager (1 ace) both going 7 for 8 in serving.  Lacee Murtaugh contributed 15 assists.
  • Lady Cardinals lose to Elkhorn in Semifinal Match of the Roncalli Invitational (Record 1-1)
    Elkorn (last years NE Class B VB champs) defeated SSC by scores of 15-11 & 15-12.  Lacee Murtaugh had 18 assists and was a perfect 9 for 9 in the serving dept.  Molly Hines contributed 8 kills.
  • Lady Cardinals Volleyball defeated Glenwood, IA  15-4 & 15-6  (Record 1-0)
    Lacee Murtaugh had 6 assists,  Molly Hines 4 kills & a block, Lacey Muirhead had 5 aces, Hines was 8 for 8 serving (2 aces), & Brittni Likes was 7-8 to lead the Cardinals to the win.  Leading the way in digs was Muirhead with 3, while Likes, Joy Rager, & Amber Estochen had 2 digs apiece.  The season opening victory sends the Cardinals into the semifinals of the Roncalli Invitational.
