Autumn Boyer Finished 30th in the
State Cross Country Meet with a time of 16:49.17 Autumn finished 30th in a field of 90 runners. She ran 16.49 which was a decent performance. The 11th fastest time by a South Sioux girl. I think winning the district placed some unreasonable expectations on her. Autumn was disappointed but these are the best runners from across the state. Based on what she had run all year and being in her first State Meet we were satisfied. The State Meet is an exceptional event. The crowds, the noise and number of runners makes it a tough place to run. I'm sure she learned a lot and is looking forward to preparing to compete again next year. SSC's Autumn Boyer Wins Districts - Qualifies for State
Last night at the Class B1 district meet,
Autumn Boyer became the first district champ from South Sioux City since
Anne Shadle accomplished this feat 5 years ago. Autumn ran one of the
best district meet races that a South Sioux runner has ever ran. Autumn
led the cardinals with a time of 16:48. Autumn was followed by Sidney
Thesenga at 18th place, Katie Frank at 38th place, and Grace Horner at
45th place. The girls' team finished 6th out of 8 teams. Sidney
narrowingly missed making it to the state meet. The top 15 places go on
to run at the state meet which is next Friday at Kearney. Congratulations
Autumn in qualifying for state.
On the boys side, Gerardo Marin led
the cardinals with an 18th place finish followed by Emmanuel Estrada at
22nd, Alejandro Guerrero at 25th, Oscar Varela at 27th, Moses Pacheco at
33rd, and Luis DeAnda at 34th. The boys' team finished 5th out of 7
teams.
As usual the Conference
Championship was a very good meet. We knew that the Skutt boys were
excellent. There just are not any River Cities Conference schools that are
not pretty good in every sport. The girls team race between Skutt and
Duchesene was exciting. One of the best things about cross country is that
every runner matters. We thought our kids ran good races. Gerardo and Autumn
were meet medalists so that improves their chances at the District Meet. We
had some distractions this week so hopefully can run a little more
competitively at

Marsha Koebernick Memorial / South Sioux City Invitational Meet Results
This was a great meet. Our kids all ran their best times of the year. The conditions were perfect and the kids really enjoy running in front of such a large crowd. Our teams competed well and we were very pleased with our effort. We want to thank all the volunteers that make this meet a success. Their effort to volunteer there time helps make the Marsha Koebernick Memorial a great meet. Those of us that knew her say "Marsha has been in charge of the great weather"!
Crofton Results This is always a good meet on a tough course. We thought our kids ran well. The competition wasn't like last week but NOrfolk Catholic and Wayne both have good teams. Alot of the kids that ran will be state meet medalists in the lower classes. It was nice to see Alejandro Autumn and Sidney get into the medals. Our meet is Thursday so the season is quickly coming to an end. We continue to make progress and hopefully our teams will be ready for the Conference and District Meets.
SSC Places in the City Meet It's always fun to run in the City Meet. The North girls have a very good team and some outstanding individuals. The Boys side is very even. Finishing 3rd in the Girls race was a step in the right direction. We were disappointed with the team finish for the boys. Emmanuel Estrada and Autunm Boyer both have very strong races in the varsity divisions. It was a strange meet in that some of our kids had their best race of the year and others ran very poorly. As coaches we don't know why but it is certainly a concern. We have a nice meet at Crofton on Friday and our South Sioux Invitational is Thursday the 29th at Covington Golf Course.
This may be the most difficult meet in the state this year. One the girls side Marion is ranked #1 in Nebraska and Yankton #1 in South Dakota. The boys were the same Yankton #1, Norfolk, Grand Island, Benson all in the Nebraska top 10. It was good for our kids to see what good team cross country looks like. We showed some improvement this last week in our practice effort. Autumn and Sidney both ran times that made our all time charts so that it encouraging. Emmanual and Moses had good races in the JV. We just need to keep working hard in practice and do some running on the weekends. We still have a month of the season left so still can make some improvements. We have our meet on the 29th and some of these teams will be there so that will be fun.
We had a nice home meet. It's hard to come off a four day break and run very well. Either kids have worked really hard for later in the season or took four days off. Wayne has a decent boys team that we saw last week. We were a little disappointed that we were not a little more competitive with them. Their girls team isn't as strong as it has been but we are a little better this year. Gerardo had a nice race in the boys and Autumn, Katie Sadie and Courtney all ran well. Of the younger kids Jordan Peterson and Moses Pacheco improved a lot over last week. We'll have about ten days of good training and then head to Norfolk for the best meet of the season.
South Sioux City opened the 2005 cross country season at the Wisner Pilger Invitational cross country meet. There were twenty-four schools and eight in the South Sioux Division. The South Sioux Boys finished 4th in the Varsity Division. Meet medalists were Alejandro Guerrero 7th Gerardo Marin 14th David Romo 15th the other varsity runners were Oscar Vardel 18th and Daniel Guerrero 22nd. The Varsity girls did not have a team score but had three medalists Autumn Boyer 6th Brittany Stabe 9th and Katie Frank 10th. The JV Boys finished 2nd led by medalists Emmanuel Estrada 3rd Luis DeAnda 14th Jordan Peterson 17th and AAron Satterwhite 26th. The JV Girls were the team champions with medalists Margaret Navarete 4th Countney McGinty 6th Sadie Johnson 8th and Grace Horner 9th.
