Young Scientists' Day
Children of elementary age had the opportunity to discover the world of science through hands on activities. This day was filled with exploring, experimenting, observing, and learning. Everyone worked in small groups, assisted by South Sioux City High School students.
Activities Included:
Bubbles: What are bubbles
made of? What causes them to stay blown up or pop? Children will
enjoy making bubbles and hearing the story "The Great Soap Bubble
Ride" written by Susan Cornell Poskanzer.
Making Ice Cream: An introduction to solids, liquids, and gases. Observing the changes of a liquid to a solid will surely be a tasty experience
Magnified ABC's: Each child will have the opportunity to use a magnifying glass and microscope. They will be amazed at what they can see.
Critter Corner: Is it warm-blooded or cold-blooded? Children will meet a variety of classroom pets and learn about their special features and traits.
Young Scientists' Day: May, 2002, South Sioux
City High School
On Thursday, May 9th, Mrs. Crowe and her scientists from
SSCHS invited our class, Mrs. Robertson's 1st grade class from Cardinal
Elementary, to come for a special afternoon of learning about
science. They showed us how microscopes worked, how to change a liquid
into a yummy solid (ice cream!), how to make bubbles with closed shapes, and we
got to pet their many animals. We had a wonderful time and thank Mrs. Crowe
and her scientists for a fun, learning afternoon!
