Learning Plan for Rest of Year

published April 2, 2020

Dear Families,

Last night, Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts issued a directed health measure “all schools to operate without students in their buildings until May 31, 2020. Extracurricular activities are also canceled statewide. This restriction does not apply to school staff working in school buildings.”

With this new information, we are going to follow our previously communicated plan to move to our next option of High School Graduation on June 14, 2020.

I am so proud of all your efforts! We may not have students in our buildings, but learning is still taking place.  School is not closed, the learning environment has only shifted. There are still  many questions that need to be answered as we navigate the weeks ahead. We will be sending you updates when they become available. It is very important for our middle and high school students to check their email daily. I do know that our kids are fortunate to have you all in their corner and we will continue to improve our teaching and learning in our new model this spring.

Thank you for your patience and understanding during this unique and unprecedented time. Information is changing so rapidly and decisions need to be made so quickly at times that communication can be lost. My leadership style is one of collaboration, transparency and shared decision making but in times like this bold and decisive action is sometimes warranted. We will try our best to communicate changes and rationale as quickly as possible. I am working to inform the school board and will meet with them this afternoon to allow input into our future landscape which may change at any time.

This is a time for us to collaborate and build a community of support for our children. We understand that measures need to be put into place to protect the health and safety of our community.  Please abide by the orders and blessings of health to you and your family.

South Sioux City Community School District
