Family Engagement Meeting on DACA to be held Sept. 12

published September 7, 2017

In light of President Trump’s announced intention to end Deferred Action of Childhood Arrivals (DACA), South Sioux City Community Schools wants to support our students in their access to an excellent education, activities and opportunities, without regard to their immigration status or the immigration status of their parents.

The intended rescission of DACA affects many ambitious, intelligent, and highly-motivated students, parents and staff in our South Sioux City Community Schools. We recognize this may result in fear and uncertainty for many of the families and students we serve.  Some of our students, graduates, and possibly parents, arrived in this country as a child and the United States may be the only home he/she has known.

On Tuesday, September 12, at 6:30 pm in the South Sioux City HS Library, a family engagement meeting will be held.  In addition to the regular school/parent relations agenda, Oligmueller Law Firm, Mary Treglia House and other community officials will present on topics including DACA, future possibilities and knowing your rights.   We encourage and welcome all interested members of our school community to attend.  This meeting will also be aired live (and recorded) with a link on the South Sioux City Community Schools website www.ssccardinals.org.

With Respect,

Todd Strom
