Uniquely Prepared
South Sioux City Community Schools - Where each student is uniquely prepared!
“Where each student is uniquely prepared and thrives academically, socially, and personally” are words found in our district’s mission statement and they serve as the foundation for all decisions made about teaching and learning. Our commitment to uniquely preparing all students highlights our moral obligation to ensure students are prepared for life beyond high school.
Unique is defined on merriam-webster.com as “being the only one” or “possessing a distinctive characteristic.” South Sioux City Community Schools is a unique institution known for being academically progressive and for placing students in an environment that reflects the world. We are a school system aggressively addressing our responsibility to ensure students are college and/or career ready by the time they graduate from high school, and to provide a wonderful educational experience in a culture reflective of a diverse population.
South Sioux City Community Schools possesses a distinctive characteristic as compared to many school districts in Nebraska. South Sioux City’s collaborative culture combined with richness in diversity equips our students with skills to successfully compete in a global arena. Our students have the unique opportunity to interact daily with individuals of different cultures and have the privilege of participating in dialogue reflective of what occurs on a global scale. As a result of these interactions, our students possess respect for cultural differences and they possess a true appreciation of a world perspective. Our students are at a competitive advantage as related to collaboration, critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills.
Our school district is working hard each day to ensure all students thrive academically, socially, and personally. This school year, we devoted much of our time and energy reviewing information collected from state assessments, assessing the reading, writing, and math curriculum to find both strengths and gaps in the skills we expect all students to know and be able to do, and raising expectations associated with adult and student performance. This fine work will result in a culture where all students are college or career ready when they graduate from South Sioux City High School.
I love the heart of our students and the commitment displayed by our staff. Their hard work is beginning to produce great results in student performance as measured by several indicators. Performance on state, MAP, and classroom assessments provide credible evidence that our students and our teachers have accepted the challenge of higher academic standards. I am confident that we will see continued growth over time. Grade levels are realizing significant jumps in reading and math performance, and we are seeing wonderful gains as students move through their educational experience. We continue to have work to do in terms of our academic achievement, but I am confident that our students are increasingly becoming more competitive academically with all students across this nation.
The face of education has changed significantly over the past five years and is expected to change even more in the next five years. Students who are offered rigorous learning experiences in a culture built around relationships will possess the skills to be successful in all walks of life. We are – South Sioux City Community Schools
