“When it comes to education, the big picture is really determined by the little picture-what is best for each individual student”-Gary Gordon, Building Engaged Schools
Cardinal Elementary, home to “Cardinals READ,” opened in 1993 and prides itself on providing a quality instructional environment that fosters learning and inquiry. In the last 19 years, Cardinal has grown to a three-section elementary school serving approximately 400 students in grades K-5. Approximately 73% are minority, 45% are ESL, and 66% receive free or reduced lunch. The District’s severe and profound and elementary pervasive developmental disorder programs are also located in this facility. Cardinal is a school wide Title I building, providing support in the areas of reading and math. Thirty-four certified and 26 classified staff members strive to provide rigorous and meaningful educational experiences for all students. Teachers at Cardinal incorporate technology into classroom instruction and learning through the use of projectors, qomos, document cameras, and laptop labs located throughout the school.
