2016 A1 District Meet2016 A1 District Results  The girls were in action yesterday at the A1 district meet in Grand Island. I thought we had a terrific day, as the girls all stepped up and competed against some tough competition. Our 4x800 relay team of Marybeth Rasmussen, Taryn Christensen, Augusta Thramer, and Haley Fritza finished in 1st place to earn a spot in next Friday’s State Meet. The 4x400 team of Taryn, Mary, Zoe Cigard, and Haley finished 2nd in the 4x400 in a great race to also qualify for the state meet. Haley qualified in a third event, the 800 meter run, where she finished in 3rd place in a very close race. In the field events, our high jumpers did a great job, with Ashley Hohenstein clearing 5’1” to finish in third place, and Carissa Powell clearing 5’ to finish in 4th- both of them qualified for state. 2016 RCC Conference MeetGirls 2016 RCC Meet Results  The girls were in action yesterday at home, as we hosted the River Cities Conference Championships. We had a goal this season of winning this meet, and the girls were on a mission from the very first event to get it done; and they did, winning the team championship in convincing fashion! We scored 153 points - Beatrice was in 2nd place with 97.5. We crowned 6 conference champions along the way, with senior Haley Fritza winning four gold medals. Haley teamed up with Marybeth Rasmussen, Taryn Christensen, and Augusta Thramer to set a new conference record in the 4x800 meter relay, lowering their time this season to 9:56.20, and moving up to #6 all time at SSC. Haley won the open 400 meter dash in 61.31 seconds, the 6th fastest time in school history, and the 800 meter run in 2:29. Our 4x400 of Taryn, Marybeth, Zoe Cigard, and Haley capped the meet off with a big win in the 4x400 relay, finishing in 4:17. Our throwers also had a standout day, with senior Dani Lane overtaking junior Jenna Cox on her final throw to become a conference champion with a throw of 33’2 ½”. In the discus, sophomore Sophie Swanson unleashed a season best throw of 113-6” to win that event. We had conference runners-up in the shot put with Jenna, the 4x100 relay team of Selene Guzman, Taryn Christensen, Carissa Powell, and Kori Fischer, and juniors Carissa Powell and Ashley Hohenstein tied for second in the high jump, both clearing 4’11”. Senior Makayla Hansen placed 3rd in the 100 hurdles and the 300 hurdles. Overall, our team depth was the major factor in our win, as we placed three girls in 4 events, and 2 in 3 events.
In the JV division, senior Aspen Campbell was the winner of the shot put, with a new PR throw of 28’7”, and she also finished 2nd in the discus. The 4x400 relay team of Tori Knowles, Telma Ibarra, Ximena Alvarez, and Emely Alvarez placed 1st as well.
Next stop is Grand Island on Wednesday for the district track meet, where we hope to qualify a few girls to the state meet.

2016 Sioux City Metro Championships: The girls were at Olsen stadium yesterday on a beautiful afternoon for the Sioux City Metro Championships. With our varsity girls running a limited lineup, it gave some of our younger girls a chance to step in and compete at a varsity meet. I thought everyone had a great day, with numerous personal bests achieved, as well as a 20year old school record falling in the day’s last event. Senior Haley Fritza ran one of the best times in the state this season in the 800 in winning the city championship in that event. Also finishing as city champs were the shuttle hurdle relay team of Makayla Hansen, Madison Hansen, Carissa Powell, and Ashley Hohenstein, winning that race by almost 6 seconds. Although they finished 2nd in the race, our 4x400 team of Taryn Christensen, Marybeth Rasmussen, Zoe Cigard, and Haley Fritza ran the fastest time in school history. Congrats to those girls- that was an old record! Makayla Hansen had a great day in the hurdles, finishing in third place in the 100’s and 5th in the 400’s. Our 4x100 team of Selene Guzman, Haley Fritza, Carissa Powell, and Kori Fischer ran a season best 52.59 to take 3rd place in that event.
