English Synopsis:
Based on the true story of the Mexican-American author and educator Tomás Rivera, a child of traveling migrant workers who finds refuge in his new Iowa town's library, where he meets a librarian who opens his mind to a whirlwind of adventures through reading while he and his family work hard on the fields for a better tomorrow.
Tomas grows and goes on to later teaching English, Spanish & French on the University of Texas campuses in San Antonio and El Paso, he also becomes the first Mexican American chancellor in the University of California system. This inspirational story shows us what libraries and education can make possible.
We will also have 2 special guests sharing their stories, in English and Spanish, about their experiences as child migrant workers.
