Please speak to your children about the latest TikTok challenge

We have been made aware of a challenge circulating recently on TikTok to threaten gun violence in schools on Friday, Dec. 17. While no specific threats have been made against South Sioux City Community School District buildings, teachers or students, we want to be proactive in asking our families to help us prevent someone from making a serious mistake.

South Sioux City Community School District will not tolerate any threats of violence made against any member of our school community. Any threat will be taken seriously and will be reported to local law enforcement.

It doesn’t matter if it is a joke. It doesn’t matter if it is a prank. Any threat of violence could result in serious disciplinary issues that could damage a student’s educational future.

We are hoping that our families will partner with us to stop these pranks before they happen. Please take a few moments to talk to your children and express the severity of this issue.

We also want to ask that if our students or families see a threat on social media or elsewhere that they report it to a district staff member, Let’s Talk or to law enforcement.

We know the impact the past two years have had on the social-emotional health of our students, and that could be an explanation behind the desire for students across the country to participate in these challenges. We are always here for your children and for your family. If you need assistance of any sort, please reach out to your teachers, your school counselor, or your building principal.

Thank you for partnering with us to keep all of our students, staff and community members healthy, happy and safe.
