Return to School Flowchart & Protocol for Staff / Students

South Sioux City Community Schools is continuously evaluating the 2021-22 Safe Return to School Plan during this pandemic. Our goal is to provide a safe environment with minimal interruption to the learning process.  New research emerges and more guidance is provided daily to the school district from the Dakota County Health Department, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services, the Nebraska Department of Education (NDE) and the U.S. Department of Education.

The families of students and those staff who test positive need to contact their school health office to determine next steps and return to school plans.

  • It is recommended that an individual who is presumed or confirmed positive for COVID-19 stay home for 5 days from the onset of symptoms and remain home until 24 hours of being fever free with improved symptoms. No medical verification is needed for either the absence or return to school.  Students are encouraged to wear masks for an additional five days upon return.
