Cardinal Elementary

About Us

“When it comes to education, the big picture is really determined by the little picture-what is best for each individual student”-Gary Gordon, Building Engaged Schools

Cardinal Elementary opened in 1993 as a two-section, K-4 building serving approximately 230 students. In the last 20 years, Cardinal has grown to a three-section elementary school serving 400 students in grades K – 5. Approximately 72% are minority, 37% are ESL and 70% receive free or reduced lunch. The District’s severe & profound and elementary PDD programs are also located in this facility. Cardinal is a school with high expectations and achievement featuring thirty-seven certified, twenty-six classified employees and a full time nurse all dedicated to our students. The school works to constantly improve the quality of services while keeping the needs of all children at the forefront of the educational efforts. Cardinal Elementary exemplifies South Sioux City’s standards of excellence, whether sharing discoveries in the classroom, developing friendships on the playground, 5th grade students leading the announcements/Pledge of Allegiance, or reaching out to help other students and families throughout the year. Cardinal supports the belief that academic and social skills are vital to the growth of the whole child. Cardinal is a school wide Title I building, providing support in the area of reading and encouraging families be involved in their child’s education. Our read and feed activity saw over two hundred parents come and read with their child. The PTO is very active with a variety of activities such as: Carnival Night, Spelling Bee, Science Fair, and many more. There are great things going on at Cardinal Elementary. Come check them out!
