South Sioux City High School science teacher Kelly Dilliard has been elected Treasurer of the Nebraska Association of Teachers of Science (NATS) Board of Directors for the 2025–2028 term.
Dilliard is widely recognized for her enthusiasm for science education and her commitment to fostering collaboration among educators. Before joining the high school faculty, she taught science at South Sioux City Middle School and has consistently worked to inspire curiosity and engagement in the classroom.
In addition to her teaching career, Dilliard spent nearly a decade serving as Web Designer for the Sedimentary Geology Division of the Geological Society of America, reflecting her deep dedication to the scientific community and professional outreach.
In her candidate statement, Dilliard shared her vision for NATS:
“My vision for NATS is to create a welcoming environment for all. We need to be better at getting the word out to science teachers across the state about what NATS is about and why a membership is in their interest. We need to welcome new teachers and pre-service teachers… We can be a great resource for collaboration and community.”
NATS President Kristen Slechta praised Dilliard’s election, saying,
“Kelly brings both a strong background in science and a genuine passion for community-building among educators. Her experience in education and her leadership within the scientific community make her a tremendous asset to the NATS Board as we continue to expand connections and strengthen support for teachers across Nebraska.”
As Treasurer, Dilliard will oversee the organization’s financial stewardship and help guide initiatives that support NATS’s mission to advance excellence in science education statewide.
