Superintendent’s Spotlight Corner
Welcome to South Sioux City Community Schools (SSC)! As your new Superintendent of Schools, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the start of the 2023-2024 school year and officially introduce myself to the greater community. My wife and I are happy to call South Sioux City our new home; we were drawn to South Sioux City because of the rich diversity in our community. We have three daughters and a son. Our two oldest daughters are in college and our youngest daughter and son will attend school in our district.
Our school district consists of one high school, one middle school, six elementary schools, and an alternative high school. We have an excellent preschool program for three- and four-year-olds. We offer mental health services in all our schools, and have a great partnership with the police, fire, and city hall. We serve approximately 3,900 students. Diversity is a major strength with over 30 languages spoken in our schools. Students are in the great and caring hands of 530 district employees who care deeply about their success. The size of our district is another strength; we are small enough to provide students and families with the individual attention of a smaller school district while we are big enough to provide a comprehensive education to all students. Students in grades 6-12 receive a Chromebook that connects wirelessly via super-fast 10G fiber in all our schools.
On Friday nights, and other nights throughout the week, everyone comes together to cheer for the Cardinals! Whether you have students in our district or not, I invite you to attend one of our many events throughout the school year. Seeing young people perform in a school musical, play soccer, or compete in E-Sports is always a treat! As a one-high school town, we all get to cheer for the same team…Go Cards!
As your new superintendent, I am eager to meet and hear from as many people as possible. I pledge to always do right by our students and to honor our past without being stuck in it.
